WE ARE POETS follows 6 bright young talents from inner-city Leeds as they prepare to represent the UK at America’s biggest slam poetry competition in Washington DC. From the streets of their Northern city to a stage in front of the White House – for Saju, Maryam, Joseph, Rheima, Kadish and Azalia, it’s the journey of a lifetime.
Passionate, inspiring and honest, WE ARE POETS is a moving testament to the power of the spoken word and the creativity and dynamism of young people.
WE ARE POETS, the debut feature from Alex Ramseyer-Bache and Daniel Lucchesi, won the Youth Jury Award at the prestigious Sheffield Doc/Fest. The film was released in UK cinemas in 2012 and has been screened in festivals from Ireland to New Zealand.
The free screening, at Tate South Lambeth Library on Tuesday 12th February 2013 (6.30pm), will be followed by a Q&A with director and young poets featured in the film.
