WE ARE POETS February 2013

TUESDAY 12th FEBRUARY 2013 at 6.30 pm

WE ARE POETS follows 6 bright young talents from inner-city Leeds as they prepare to represent the UK at America’s biggest slam poetry competition in Washington DC.  From the streets of their Northern city to a stage in front of the White House – for Saju, Maryam, Joseph, Rheima, Kadish and Azalia, it’s the journey of a lifetime.

Passionate, inspiring  and honest, WE ARE POETS is a moving testament to the power of the spoken word and the creativity  and dynamism of young people.

WE ARE POETS, the debut feature from Alex Ramseyer-Bache and Daniel Lucchesi, won the Youth Jury Award at the prestigious Sheffield Doc/Fest.  The film was released in UK cinemas in 2012 and has been screened in festivals from Ireland to New Zealand.

The free screening, at Tate South Lambeth Library on Tuesday 12th February 2013 (6.30pm), will be followed by a Q&A with director and young poets featured in the film.

The screening launches SPINE – VAUXHALL VOICES, an exciting series of performance poetry workshops for young people in Lambeth which we have helped put together with Apples and Snakes and Lambeth Libraries.

The free workshops will run on Tuesdays 4.30 to 6.30 from 26th February to 16th April at Tate South Lambeth Library.  A poetry slam performance by young people taking part in the workshops will take place at the library on Tuesday 26th March at 7pm.
